Description:
In the book Designing for People (1955), the American industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss created the figures of Joe and Josephine. Two fictional people whose body measurements were the basis for designing all kinds of standardised architectural objects and spaces.
These two bodies representing the percentile 50 were created using data provided by the military army and the fashion industry.
The author himself explains how the ironing board and the hoover fit Josephine's body perfectly while the war tank is made to fit Joe.
The last design proposes to say goodbye to Joe and Josephine, to attend the funeral of the idea of the body that was invented by modernity. For this ritual, I create the funeral urns as the last design based on their measurements.
